Life Lessons from Covid-19. by Francis Okpaleke

Image
1. Personal habits and local idiosyncrasies can engender global consequences. No one in Wuhan, China knew that the wildlife they consumed every other day would trigger an international health catastrophe. Likewise, some untoward habits we ignore today may affect us at the global stage. 2. Luck is unreliable. For decades, the wildlife market in China appeared innoculated from zoonotic diseases and blossomed into a multi-billion industry till Covid-19. In life too, luck runs out. A singular event can change one's state from hero to zero. 3. New levels may bring new devils. For every new step there are concomitant challenges. We were eager to leave 2019 but it is just three months into 2020 and the world is at a standstill. In life, every new milestone carries with it new challenges.  4. Tenacity is tested in adversity. The global response towards mitigating the further spread of Covid-19 has shown the economic, technological, political strength of nations over others. Chi...

some great business ideas that will trend from this time onward. by Pascal Okeke.

Image
Every economic shift leads to a new way of living. This #coronavirus crisis will be no different. * The Great Depression defined consumer habits for decades. * Hyperinflation after WWII still haunts German policy. * The oil supply crisis in the 70s led to the first efforts of energy conservation and efficiency. * The 2008 financial crisis was the trigger for a new, regulatory framework across the banking and financial sectors. * Now this health emergency that is shaking up the world’s economy will change our world forever. In just a matter of weeks, we are seeing people en masse wearing masks, stocking up on goods, canceling social and business events, postponing travel plans, and working from home. We have also seen the government shutting down schools, getherings even churches and prayer sessions. These new habits will endure long after the virus lockdown eases. Yesterday, an aspiring entrepreneur asked, Sir,  what are some great business ideas that you wouldn't mind ...

How can you benefit from social isolation? by Pascal Okeke.

Image
This question sounds off, doesn’t it? Social isolation sounds like something bad by definition. Benefitting from it may come across as a quirky idea. But isolating ourselves as much as we can seems to be the most responsible decision we can make now. If we choose to do it, we may as well try to find upsides to it. Yesterday, I heard the most inspiring story. A woman turned the coronavirus threat into a precious moment with her family. She has 12-year old twins at home who are obsessed with video games. This obsession makes it hard for their mom to connect with them and do things together. As the virus became more prevalent in the UK where she lives, the woman wanted to buy hand sanitizer. Unfortunately, all the local shops were out of stock. So she decided to take her two boys to town and go on a quest — much like in the video games they play. The quest was to find the hand sanitizer. After a couple of hours of what felt like a treasure hunt, the boys found it. The woman sa...

NOTHING TASTES LIKE SEX. By Nneka Eminence Timothy

*I will speak for myself* *The satisfaction we get from sex cannot be gotten  elsewhere* The taste of sex is different. There's no basis of comparison between sleep and pap, that's same way we can't compare sexual satisfaction with any other kind of satisfaction Why are my writing this today? We have been told that men want sex more than women. Experiments may have proven thus but not Scripture. Aha you are reminding of where Jesus says a man commits adultery if he looks at a woman lustfully. Matt 5:28 Jesus isn't saying men want sex more, there was no comparison between men and women in that Scripture at all; He just taught men how to live pure lives. Women sure do have their sexual issues too, women pay for sex too just like men do... Promiscuity is not a gender thing and shouldn't be seen as one... See, in 1 Cor 7:5 New International Version Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. The...

DON'T DELAY MARRIAGE.

Image
Girls at the age of 18-24 years always attract serious men who are fully ready to marry them, but at this age most of our girls/sisters never wish to hear anything about marriage. 1. I'm too young for that 2. Who cares about marriage 3. I'm focused on my books 4. I want to gather some money first 5. Marriage is full of problems 6. You're too old for me. (A guy of 30) These are some of few statements ladies talk of at their youth age. But these girls will be having serious & series of sex relationship with small boys of their age, because at that age, they always have high rate of boys, guys and men coming for them, but they will prefer to choose those boys rather than the real men who want to marry them. They are still young to marry right, but they are not young to have sex with boys. No problem, God is watching you At age of 25-27, parents will start asking them the following questions; 1. How far? 2. Don't you have any one yet? 3. Are you not planning...

What is depression?Depression is a type of psychological illness that manifest in sufferers as frequent low moods, loss of energy and losing pleasure in things that hitherto gave joy. It can also disturb sleep and appetite. How does it manifest? The person manifesting with depression can also become irritable, gain or lose weight. Depression is a dangerous form of mental illness because it is difficult to recognise by medical officers, general or family physicians in the private hospitals, general hospitals and primary health care settings. Sometimes, depression can be masked and may manifest with physical health ...

Who sold Nigeria to the British for £865k in 1899?

Image
BY Cheta Nwanze The Royal Niger Company and the founding of what became Nigeria. Sir George Goldie. Via Wiki Commons. All through the 19th century, palm oil was highly sought-after by the British, for use as an industrial lubricant for machinery. Remember that Britain was the world’s first industrialised nation, so they needed resources such as palm oil to maintain that. Palm oil, of course, is a tropical plant native to the Niger Delta. Malaysia’s dominance came a century later. By 1870, palm oil had replaced slaves as the main export of the Niger Delta, the area which was once known as the Slave Coast. At first, most of the trade in the oil palm was uncoordinated, with natives selling to those who gave them the best deals. Native chiefs such as former slave, Jaja of Opobo, became immensely wealthy because of oil palm. With wealth comes influence. However, among the Europeans, there was competition for who would get preferential access to the lucrative oil palm trade. In 1879, George ...

When God is silent. by Francis

Image
Sometimes God is completely silent. Prayer requests go unanswered. Heart-felt supplications seem to fall hard on deaf ears. The ugly situation you want gone, lingers. The frustration, fear, depression, anxiety and health condition, appear to worsen with every prayer said. Those faith sapping and moments when the desperate hope for a miracle, the earnest cry for a lifeline, the faith-filled confessions, sacrificial seeds sown and almsgiving done does not seem to move the hand or mind of God on a matter. Today I recall one of those painful moments. I was very young when I heard the voice of my father that early afternoon. I was very surprised as he was never at home usually till late evening. It was only when I came out to embrace him downstairs did I understand why. What I saw moved me to tears. I saw blood oozing freely from his lower leg and it was clear he had a terrible accident. The wound sustained from that accident would change the course of his life significantly. Fo...
