Thailand’s football association said Friday it would ban cheering at next month’s World Cup qualifier against Australia as the nation mourns the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Thailand initially tried to change the venue of the November 15 match after the Thai king, the world’s longest reigning monarch, died last Thursday, plunging the kingdom into grief. But Australia refused the request, according to the Football Association of Thailand (FAT). The committee mulled banning spectators but has decided to allow fans with restrictions on cheering and dress, said FAT spokesman Patit Suphaphongs. “All cheering and props such as drums, amplifiers and banners will be banned inside the stadium,” he told AFP. Johannesburg - MTN Group, Africa’s mobile giant, declined 2.25 percent on the JSE after a Nigerian senator alleged that the company had illegally moved more than $14 billion (R194bn) from that country, further damaging its fragile reputation. MTN, which faced a fine fiasco in Nigeria earlier this year, slid 2.77 percent to trade at R106.93 a share at one stage yesterday after reports emerged that the company might have illegally moved more than the previously claimed $14bn out of that country. The reports were based on comments by lawmaker Dino Melaye who cited earlier findings from the investigation into the allegation by international forensic experts. “We have realised from preliminary investigations that it is actually outrageously higher than the original figure,” Melaye, the senator who raised the allegation last month, told reporters in the capital, Abuja, on Wednesday. No fewer than 112million Nigerians now live below poverty level as global poor hits one billion mark. According to the latest poverty report by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, about 112 million Nigerians (representing 67.1 per cent) of the country's total population of 167million. Meanwhile as the world yesterday marked International Day for Eradication of Poverty, International Labour Organisatiion, ILO, has raised the alarm that number of poor people in the world has hit the one billion mark. In a statement to mark the occasion, ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder, said though Work should be the best route out of poverty, but 327 million working men and women live in extreme poverty and 967 million in moderate and near poverty. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abu Ibrahim, has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the suspension of the recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, to resolve the clash between the Senate and the Police Service Commission, PSC. Ibrahim stated this yesterday during a briefing at the National Assembly Complex, explaining that while the Senate wants the recruitment to be based on nine persons per local government, the PSC prefers that each state be given an opportunity to present equal number of persons. The commission had in March this year begun the recruitment of 10,000 personnel  into the NPF after Buhari had in 2015 approved the recruitment of 10,000 policemen at the National Security Summit in Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-graft war has received a groundswell of support from the Niger Delta Zone of the country. A group known as the Niger Delta Peoples Movement (NDPM) said it decided to give unalloyed support to the President to ensure a successful prosecution of the war. NDPM’s Coordinator, Mrs Ibifuro Thompson-Tatua, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt that Buhari had demonstrated enough political will to fight corruption. Leke Baiyewu, Abuja The Senate has summoned the management of MTN Limited, their bankers and some businessmen over alleged violation of the Foreign Exchange (Monitoring and Miscellaneous) Act. They are to appear before the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions next week. The Senate had begun a probe into the allegation that MTN repatriated a total sum of $13.9bn from Nigeria to other countries between 2006 and 2016.
